If you want to laugh your brain off, and if you have an open mind, come to see an un expecting show with funny and amazing nuns.
This show was not what I was described on the Reperatorio Espanol website. It is a story about how two teenage girls defy strict Catholic supervision, and a little bit of religious angst, to work towards fulfilling their dream to become pop singers and take a novice nun with them Even as a Jew I found it a little too disrespectful in its spoofing of Catholicism and the religious. It was a piece of escapist fluff. Music was o.k. I believe the Mother Superior Bernarda is the same actress who does a terrific job at one of the company's signature pieces, La Casa de Bernarda Alba. It really shows her range.
La Llamada is a funny and touching story of self-discovery, love and faith. The performers are wonderful!
