Corruption unfolds as Watson confronts Rebekah Brooks, the towering leader of News International, in a David-and-Goliath struggle. Alongside a team of journalists, lawyers, and politicians, Watson strives to uncover the corruption at the core of this media empire. Determined to save democracy, the crew must risk everything to get to the truth.
Long before Corruption off Broadway, the real Tom Watson, a British Labour Party MP, and Martin Hickman, a journalist from The Independent, published Dial M for Murdoch. in 2012. Watson, and Martin Hickman. The book alleged that Murdoch’s company used its political influence and connections to get away with illegal newsgathering methods in London.
To maintain secrecy, details about the title and release date were confidential, and those involved in the book’s production with Penguin Books had to sign nondisclosure agreements due to concerns that Murdoch’s News International might try to thwart the launch. Because of this, the timeframe between the final draft and publication is thought to be the shortest in Penguin’s history.
