More information about Death Becomes Her

Death Becomes Her is a campy musical based on the hit Hollywood film. In the musical version, Helen plots revenge against Madeline, who holds fast to her rapidly fading star. As if there wasn’t enough drama, Viola Van Horn, a mysterious woman with a secret that’s to die for, comes into their lives hawking a magical potion that restores the women to their original beauty. Naturally, there is a price to pay: living with a grudge that will last until the end of time. What could go wrong?

The cast brings together comedy icons and Tony Award nominees Megan Hilty (Wicked, Smash) and Jennifer Simard (Company, Disaster!), who perform alongside Christopher Sieber (Spamalot, Company) and Grammy Award winner Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child, Chicago). Coming to Broadway this fall, this new musical is a laugh-out-loud spectacle about friendship, frenemies, and fresh love — and the fresh hell of burying the hatchet, again, and again, and again.

What to watch for

  • Jennifer Simard and Megan Hilty have grown to be two of Broadway’s fiercest belters and funniest performers. With decades-long careers, this musical offers the first time the two leading ladies perform opposite one another in starring roles, gifting fans a diva-off for the ages.
  • The original film also featured two stellar leading ladies: Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn. Bruce Willis originated the Christopher Sieber role, and Isabella Rossellini held the Michelle Williams one.
  • Before its Broadway bow, Death Becomes Her started in Chicago in an out-of-town tryout. Variety called it “genuinely funny, effervescently performed.
  • Stars aren’t just onstage: director Christopher Gattelli is a Tony Award winner for his choreography for Newsies and a nominee for the revival of South Pacific.
