Grey House starring Laurie Metcalf on Broadway

Grey House starring Laurie Metcalf on Broadway

New York, NY

About Grey House starring Laurie Metcalf on Broadway

When a couple crashes their car in the mountains, they seek shelter in an isolated cabin. Its inhabitants, though somewhat unusual, are eager to make their guests feel right at home. But as the blizzard outside rages on and one night turns into several, the couple becomes less and less sure of what's true—about their hosts, themselves, and why that sound in the walls keeps getting louder. Two-time Tony Award winner Laurie Metcalf (A Doll’s House, Part 2) stars in this first-of-its-kind Broadway experience, alongside Emmy Award winner Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”), Emmy nominee Paul Sparks (“House of Cards”), Lortel Award nominee Sophia Anne Caruso (School For Good And Evil), and Critics’ Choice Award nominee Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place). With direction by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (The Humans, Wicked), and written by Levi Holloway, Grey House is a “savvy, smart new play—that just happens to be legitimately terrifying” (Chicago Tribune).

Tell Me More

Do you dare enter the cabin? Enter a house where all isn't as it seems in Grey House, a new Broadway horror play starring Laurie Metcalf. Set an alert for Grey House tickets on TodayTix.

In the Grey House play, a couple crashes their car in the mountains and finds an isolated cabin to shelter at. The cabin is occupied by a group of seemingly supernatural teenage girls and their mother (Metcalf), but they don't mind the couple's arrival. In fact, they seem to have been expecting them. Things only get creepier from there when a blizzard traps the couple in the cabin. As days go by, they start to question their surroundings, their hosts, and themselves.

Grey House had an award-winning premiere in Chicago in 2019, and now the show comes to Broadway with a starry team. Alongside Emmy and Tony winner Metcalf (Roseanne; Hacks; A Doll's House, Part 2) are Emmy nominee Paul Sparks (House of Cards) and Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) as the young couple.

Directing is Joe Mantello, best known for directing shows like Wicked and The Humans. He won Tonys for directing Take Me Out and Assassins, and he's also an actor who can be seen as Gino in American Horror Story: NYC.

What to Watch For

  • Playwright Levi Holloway makes his Broadway debut with Grey House.
  • With Grey House on Broadway, Mantello and Metcalf reunite after he directed her in 2018's Three Tall Women. Mantello got a Tony nomination for directing, and Metcalf snagged her second win for acting.
  • In 2016, Metcalf starred in Misery, a play with a similar premise to Grey House. She earned a Tony nomination for playing an obsessive woman who holds a famous author captive in her home. (In Grey House, a character notes the parallel as he approaches the remote cabin.)
  • In fact, the whole cast are no strangers to the scary. Beetlejuice star Sophia Anne Caruso is in Grey House alongside Millicent Simmonds, best known for starring in the horror film A Quiet Place.
  • Multiple Broadway thrillers feature scary themes (like the murderous Macbeth and Sweeney Todd) or married the spooky with the comic (like Beetlejuice and Little Shop of Horrors), but Grey House is the rare play to lean fully into horror.
