One day, Hnath asked Cuiffo to show home some sleight-of-hand tricks, and that simple ask led them to create the A Simulacrum play. Little is known about the illusions and storytelling you'll get to see, but then again, magicians never reveal their tricks ahead of time.

Hnath is the co-creator and director of A Simulacrum off Broadway, but he's best known as a playwright. A Doll's House, Part 2, his 2017 follow-up to Henrik Ibsen's classic, earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Play, as did his 2021 piece Dana H.

Cuiffo has performed in a variety of live solo and group magic shows, and he's also worked behind the scenes, creating illusions for live theatre and televisual media. He consulted on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's fifth season, created illusions for the film White Noise, and was a magic consultant on fellow celebrity magician David Blaine's early TV specials.
