In the Elyria play, two women make a major, life-changing deal that will link their futures forever. Twenty years later, in Elyria, Ohio, the two reunite for the first time since then, after spending all that time oceans and continents apart. They are finally forced to reckon with both their past and their shared future.

Purohit makes her Off-Broadway debut with Elyria in New York, and she joins with return Atlantic Theater Company director Awoye Timpo. Timpo was last represented off Broadway with Theatre for a New Audience's production of Alice Childress's Wedding Band, and her last Atlantic directing credit was The Homecoming Queen by Ngozi Anyanwu.

What to Watch For

• Besides being a playwright, Purohit was also a co-founder and leader of Rising Circle Theater Collective, a developmental lab for writers of color, from 2000 to 2012.
• Purohit has family ties of her own in Ohio, as well as in India.
• The title Ohio town has been included in multiple other pieces of pop culture, including the films Take Shelter, Blue Helicopter, and The Bronze.
• Purohit is also an actress. She has appeared on screen in films like Sex and the City 2 and TV shows like Elementary.
