About Pass Over on Broadway

In PASS OVER, Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu’s "powerful and provocative" (Arifa Akbar, The Guardian) new play, Moses and Kitch talk smack, pass the time, and hope that maybe today will be different. As they dream of their promised land, a stranger wanders into their space and disrupts their plans. Evoking heartbreak, hope, and joy over its 85 minutes, PASS OVER crafts everyday profanities into poetic and humorous riffs, illuminating the unquestionable human spirit of young men looking for a way out. "THE RIGHT SHOW FOR BROADWAY'S BIG STARTUP. PASS OVER is a visceral new play with a determined and unstinting point of view. This is the richly expressed work of a remarkable young playwright with a huge career in front of her.” -Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune

A gripping 85-minute drama from rising playwright Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu, Pass Over asks provocative questions about freedom, the dream for a better life, and the unending cycles which trap Black lives.

Pass Over premiered at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 2017, then made its New York premiere at Lincoln Center Theater in 2018. Both productions were directed by Danya Taymor, who returns here for her Broadway directing debut.
