Don’t see it if You are closed minded, homophobic, are sensitive to scents (heavy incense used), don't like burlesque, want traditional show. Stay home!

More information about Seven Sins by Company XIV

Seven Sins was Company XIV's last show before the pandemic; shortly after its premiere received critical acclaim, the show was forced to close alongside the rest of theatre in March 2020. The company reopened Théâtre XIV in fall 2021 with Nutcracker Rouge, its annual burlesque show based on the classic Christmas tale of the Nutcracker. That show, too, puts a sexy twist on a story people usually experience as a ballet or family show, and has been a holiday date-night favorite since 2013.

Seven Sins returned in spring 2022, and popular demand brought it back for 2023. Like all Company XIV shows, Seven Sins is created and directed by the troupe’s founder, Austin McCormick. Having graduated from the Juilliard School and The Conservatory of Baroque Dance, he founded Company XIV in 2006 to bring baroque dance to today’s stage, blending old- and new-fashioned entertainment.

What to Watch For

  • Company XIV's show isn't the only sin-inspired show in recent years. A socially distanced outdoor production in the Meatpacking District, Seven Deadly Sins, premiered in summer 2021 and was one of the first in-person shows to open in New York since the pandemic. That show was a collection of seven short plays, each based on one of the sins.
  • Seven Sins off Broadway isn't technically an immersive show, but it's definitely interactive — the performances aren't limited to the stage. Look up and you might see an aeralist or circus artist doing a routine above the audience, or look around to see dancers moving up and down the aisles. You might even interact with the performers here and there, as they double as the ushers who bring you to your seat and the waiters that serve you drinks.
  • McCormick is best known for Company XIV, but he’s also choreographed for theatre and opera at many famous venues, including The Metropolitan Opera and Kennedy Center.
