As Julius Caesar’s power grows, the fearful Senate demands he give up his forces and civil war erupts. With mesmerizing energy, director Shana Cooper explores what happens when violence is used to govern, and theatricalizes a mythic cycle that combines the political, psychological, and phantasmagorical. After her 2017 production electrified audiences at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ms. Cooper reimagines Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar one year before America’s 2020 elections in her Off-Broadway debut.
