Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! Say it three times, and the musical adaptation of the 1988 comedy classic will appear for a third Broadway run!
The Beetlejuice musical keeps Tim Burton's distinctive, spooky aesthetic from the 1988 film intact and adds plenty of pop culture and theatre humor, frightfully catchy songs, and plenty of special effects to the story of teenager Lydia Deetz, who discovers her family's new house is haunted by its previous owners, a timid suburban couple, and Beetlejuice, who helps Lydia frighten the new tenants away while doing some scheming of his own.
Amid the title character's zany antics is also a show about family, making the most of life while you have it, and making the most of death if you're stuck in it. A New York Theatre Guide review calls Beetlejuice "a parade of eccentricity with flair and great comedy technique that turns it into a subversive delight."

Beetlejuice may be stuck in the same house for eternity, but the Beetlejuice musical has traveled far. Before coming to Broadway, the show premiered at Washington, D.C.'s National Theatre. It closed in NYC in March 2020, but the Beetlejuice cast and creative team took to social media to keep promoting the show, holding virtual costume contests, meet-and-greets, and more. The fan response was so overwhelming that Beetlejuice came back in April 2022.
Beetlejuice's first NYC run marked the Broadway debuts of book writers Scott Brown and Anthony King. Neither are new to theatre, though: Brown is a former theatre critic for New York magazine, and King is the former artistic director of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. Their Beetlejuice collaborator, composer/lyricist Eddie Perfect, had just debuted on Broadway with King Kong in November 2018, making Beetlejuice his second show in one Broadway season.
Perfect began writing songs for Beetlejuice in 2014, and a companion album to the show's cast recording, Beetlejuice: The Demos The Demos The Demos, features a ton of songs that didn't make it into the final cut of Beetlejuice on Broadway. Director Alex Timbers, who staged the Tony-winning Moulin Rouge! The Musical, has also been attached to Beetlejuice since the beginning.
Beetlejuice runs for 2hr 30min. Incl. one intermission.
