About Hamlet
As Shakespeare’s Globe comes of age and reaches its twenty-first year, the 2018 summer season begins with the question ‘Who’s there?’ The opening words of Hamlet will be the first of many questions asked to audiences as we look to the future and the next twenty years of Globe seasons.
Learning of his father’s death, Prince Hamlet comes home to find his uncle married to his mother and installed on the Danish throne. At night, the ghost of the old king demands that Hamlet avenge his ‘foul and most unnatural murder.’
In this gender-blind production, the role of Hamlet will be played by Michelle Terry, artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe.
