White Rabbit Red Rabbit in London plays each Monday night, when a performer walks onto the stage with as much information about the show as the audience. They receive a sealed envelope, and inside is a script they’ve never read before. They must perform it immediately, without rehearsals or any prior experience with the play.
What follows changes with every performer as Soleimanpour’s words guide the performance through an unpredictable evening in which they must respond to the material in front of them.
The rotating London lineup has featured performers including David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, Kathryn Hunter, Kunal Nayyar, David Harewood, and Christopher Eccleston, with further guest performers taking the stage throughout the audience.
Because every performer and audience member enters the night without knowing what lies ahead, each Monday night at the Duchess Theatre becomes a unique production.

Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour wrote White Rabbit Red Rabbit while he was unable to travel outside Iran, transforming his lived experiences into a theatrical work that explores freedom, complicity, and authority.
White Rabbit Red Rabbit is a play premiered internationally in 2011 and has since been performed around the world in more than 30 languages. Rather than relying on traditional rehearsals, its structure depends on keeping each performer's material secret until the moment they step on stage.
This 15th anniversary West End residency also coincides with the launch of There & Then, an independent theatre company established by Soleimanpour and longtime collaborator Omar Elerian.
The Duchess Theatre engagement follows another major run of White Rabbit Red Rabbit in London at @sohoplace in 2024 and allows a new group of performers to encounter Soleimanpour’s work for themselves.
