Peter Grimes, a fisherman in a small coastal town, is accused of a terrible crime. Though cleared of legal guilt, he faces the judgment and hostility of the villagers. When tragedy strikes again, Peter, consumed by guilt and paranoia, returns to the sea.
Allan Clayton, Bryn Terfel and Maria Bengtsson star in Britten's bleak operatic tragedy, in which the dark undercurrents of paranoia and mob mentality lead to a turbulent, haunting end. Amazing performance on every level.
An evocative play- beautiful sing and staged. Impressive set and well acted.
Revived production with Alan Clayton and Bryan Terfel retaining their roles. Dramatic setting by Deborah Warner with undercurrents of child abuse bringing depth to the plot. Great orchestra particularly during the Sea Interludes complementing great singing by the stars and the ensemble.
