Don’t miss Noël Coward’s first ever play, The Rat Trap. This rarely seen masterpiece is receiving a brilliant new revival at Park Theatre, reimagined by Bill Rosenfield and directed by Kirsty Patrick Ward. Book The Rat Trap tickets on TodayTix.
The Rat Trap in London is set in 1920s Belgravia, and the play follows novelist Sheila and aspiring playwright Keld as they begin married life together, believing that their love is strong enough to survive their creative ambitions. But when Keld’s career begins to flourish, and Sheila’s makes no movement at all, their domestic life begins to fall to pieces.
Professional jealousy, an unfortunate compromise, and an affair come to light after some time, turning petty spats into something far more painful. As their relationship continues to deteriorate, Coward’s observations on love and sacrifice come into view.
The Rat Trap features a fantastic cast, including Lily Nichol as Sheila and Ewan Miller as Keld, alongside Angela Sims, Daniel Abbott, Gina Bramhill, Zoe Goriely, and Ailsa Joy.

Though it was written in 1918, when Coward was 18, The Rat Trap did not premiere until 1926 and has seldom been staged in London since. That alone makes this reimagining of a historical classic a brilliant chance to encounter Coward’s first play, which showcases his genius from a young age.
This production, beautifully reimagined by Bill Rosenfield for a more contemporary audience, is under the direction of Kirsty Patrick Ward, who approaches this show as a sharp piece of social commentary.
The formidable creative team also includes set and costume design by Libby Watson, lighting by Jamie Platt, and sound and music by Ed Lewis.
The Rat Trap is a play that offers audiences the ability to see a rarely seen side of Coward, one that is darker and more emotionally-compelling than some of his better-known comedies.
Don’t miss Noël Coward’s first-ever but most rarely seen show, The Rat Trap, a dark and witty drama focused on marriage as it is reimagined for its centenary year, with revisions by Bill Rosenfield and directed by Kirsty Patrick Ward.
The Rat Trap is at London's Park Theatre, which is located at Clifton Terrace, Finsbury Park, London, N4 3JP.
