Into The Woods is a musical that blends several Grimm fairy tales, such as Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. It tells the story of the Baker and the Baker’s Wife, who desperately wish to have a child, but have been cursed by a dastardly witch. Their quest to dissolve the spell sends them into the woods, where all dreams are meant to come true. Little do they know that the journey they’re embarking on is much darker than they anticipated.
Directed by Jordan Fein, whose Olivier Award-winning revival of Fiddler on the Roof garnered widespread acclaim, this revival brings a fresh vision to one of Sondheim’s most famous works. Included in the creative team is musical supervisor and musical director Mark Aspinall, sound designer Adam Fisher, lighting designer Aideen Malone, and wigs, hair, and make-up designer Sam Cox.
With a cast led by Kate Fleetwood, Katie Brayben, and Jamie Parker, this is a deeply moving and truly magical return to the woods.

Since its premiere in 1986, Into The Woods has become one of Sondheim’s most enduring musicals, celebrated for its melodious score, wit, and poignant exploration of what it costs to do anything for that which you don’t have.
The musical won Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Book and has been staged internationally. Into The Woods also won an Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival in 2011.
Director Jordan Fein and designer Tom Scutt transform the Bridge Theatre into a living, breathing forest filled with shadows and surprises. Audiences can expect inventive staging and a renewed focus on the show’s darker second act, where fairy tales give way to far deeper, more uncomfortable truths.
The stellar ensemble for this staging also includes Chumisa Dornford-May as Cinderella, Gracie McGonigal as Little Red Ridinghood, Oliver Savile as the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince, and Rhys Whitfield as Rapunzel’s Prince.
Whether you’re a lifelong Sondheim fan or entering the woods for the first time, this reimagined showing of Into The Woods in London is sure to be a magical and resonant night of theatre.
