More information about The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs

The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs is a musical by Iman Qureshi. Qureshi was inspired to write the show after seeing The Inheritance. She said, "I don't think queer women have been given enough opportunities to sit in a dark room together holding hands, acknowledging those old wounds, and hearing their stories told. Hearing that they matter." Realizing that there is a lack of lesbian-centric shows, she sought to tell those stories in The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs.

The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs in London has an exceptional creative team, including director Hannah Hauer-King, designer Anna Reid, lighting designer Zoe Spurr, composer, co-sound designer, and co-musical director Nicola T Chang, co-sound designer Tingying Dong, co-musical director Viki Calver, and intimacy and fight director Bethan Clark.

Hauer-King said, "I couldn't be more excited to have such an incredible group of artists bringing this story back to life. It really is a dream cast, with new company members Liz Carr, Leah Harvey, Georgie Henley, Zak Ghazi-Torbati and Serena Manteghi bringing new energy to the show, Shuna Snow returning as much-loved Connie the choir director, Fanta Barrie returning as life of the party Ellie, and Mariah Louca as the irreplaceable Brig."

What to watch for

  • Shuna Snow and Fanta Barrie are both reprising their roles from the 2022 Soho Theatre staging.
  • The 4-star review from Time Out said, "Iman Qureshi's warm, complex play The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs explores just how difficult it is to create a queer space, while showing how beautiful it can be when the stars align."
  • Artistic director and CEO of Kiln Theatre, Amit Sharma, said: "What an absolutely phenomenal cast we have for The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs. Iman's play celebrates love, identity and community with heart and humour – and with this cast it has all of the above in abundance. I can't wait for audiences to come and see this brilliant play!"
  • Audiences will notice that the first act is often laugh-out-loud funny, while the second act is more thoughtful and emotional.
