See it if you want to watch a mini-recital in a musical. Tip: bring tissue and try to pick a seat with a lower number.

Don’t see it if you have a tiger mom and gets triggered by her “tiger actions”. Or you cannot handle stories about deaths of loved ones.

Don’t see it if It’s not on or musicals are not your thing. Honestly, they ate the only reasons I can think of.

More information about Your Lie in April

Your Lie in April is a musical with a fantastic creative team. The show is composed by Grammy, Tony, and Emmy-nominated composer Frank Wildhorn. This isn’t the first time Wildhorn has worked to adapt manga for the stage; he also composed the hit musical, Death Note. In fact, much of the creative team on Your Lie in April was also involved in Death Note, including director and choreographer Nick Winston (Loserville, Pippin) and designer Justin Williams (La Bamba–A Musical).

“I watched the anime of Your Lie in April, and when I was done crying, I raced to the piano and wrote it in one fit of inspiration,” said Wildhorn. “It’s a love letter to the healing power of music, a coming-of-age story with truly universal themes of family, friendship, loss, first love and the bridge between childhood and becoming a young adult. I’m thrilled for West End audiences to hear the English language debut.”

What to watch for

  • This manga has been such a hit that it was adapted into an anime TV series and a live-action film before its most recent adaptation for the stage.
  • The world premiere of Your Lie in April was delayed due to COVID-19, but it was finally staged in Tokyo in May 2022.
  • At the 37th Kodansha Manga Awards the manga won best shōnen manga.
  • Broadway World gave the Theatre Royal Drury Lane concert a five-star review, saying, “The songs are knee-tapping show tunes with a life of their own. Even the most narrative-laden numbers that feature intricate lyricism never lose control of their poetic flair. They’re singable but deep, sophisticated but accessible. In short, it’s a dream of a score.”
