About Kathy and Stella Solve A Murder!

Join Kathy and Stella, best friends who host Hull’s least successful true crime podcast, as the hit musical makes its West End debut at the Ambassadors Theatre. The show runs for a strictly limited season this summer following sellout runs in Manchester, Bristol, and Edinburgh, so don’t miss your chance to get tickets on TodayTix to this new, killer musical.

Armed with Wikipedia as their research tool, Kathy and Stella’s personal and professional lives aren’t great and their podcasting venture is stumbling along. Things take an unexpected turn when their favourite author Felicia Taylor is killed and the two become real-life detectives. Danger is all around… will these plucky amateurs figure out whodunnit in time, and will justice be served?

This uproarious, big-hearted new musical is written by exciting young writers Matthew Floyd Jones and Jon Brittain and stars Bronté Barbé and Rebekah Hinds. It’s the ideal light-hearted but thought-provoking summer treat for all fans of true crime or anyone who appreciates hilarious musical comedy (or both!) – just don’t tell your friends who did it!

More information about Kathy and Stella Solve A Murder!

Presented by Fleabag producer Francesca Moody, Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder! was first performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022. The Guardian, in a 4-star review, commented, “it is packed with artistry… You can’t help but buy into Stella and Kathy’s lovable lifelong friendship and mission.”

Matthew Floyd Jones (music and lyrics) is best known as one half of musical comedy double act Frisky & Mannish. His musical Nanny premiered regionally this year. Jones and Jon Brittain (lyrics and book) first collaborated on the Fringe First-winning A Super Happy Story (About Feeling Super Sad). Brittain is the writer of cult fringe hits Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho and its sequel Margaret Thatcher Queen of Game Shows. His play Rotterdam at Theatre503 won an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre in 2017 and transferred to New York.

Bronté Barbé (Newsies) plays Kathy opposite Rebekah Hinds (Daniel Fish’s Oklahoma!) as Stella. They are joined by Imelda Green-Warren (A Very, Very Bad Cinderella) as Erica, with further casting to be announced. As the Guardian noted, “As Kathy, Bronté Barbé is the jittery cutesy companion – with brilliant high notes – to Rebekah Hinds’s more cutting and dominating Stella. Together, their voices blend perfectly.”
