About British Music Experience

David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, The Spice Girls: all of these musical legends and more are represented at the British Music Experience, a museum that is home to memorabilia, costumes, and instruments that belonged to some of the world’s most famous singers. The British Museum Experience is the United Kingdom’s only museum celebrating British singers, songwriters, and their rich history. It charts the roots and rise of British pop music from 1945 to the present.

Complete with galleries, audio-visual guides, and even hologram performances, this unique museum is a self-guided, choose-your-own-adventure. Over an hour or two, visitors can get a hands-on feel of British music history — learn to play guitar, drums, or keyboards and dance your way through the eras in the Dance the Decades studio! By taking in over 600 artifacts from original sheet music to never-before-seen footage, British Music Experience visitors enjoy a sweeping history of the artists they love from yesteryear to today. • Dance the Decades. Seven decades, twelve iconic dance styles: fun for all ages, the British Music Experience Dance the Decades exhibit marries the decade to its matching dance styles in one spacious booth. A virtual instructor teaches you all the moves that ruled the dance floors of the past — strut your stuff and try it out for yourself!
  • Visit the Gibson Brands Interactive Studio. Time to play! Gibson and Epiphone guitars have had an enormous influence on British pop, shaping the sound of a nation. At this exhibit, you’ll find electric, acoustic, and bass guitars, including Les Pauls, SGs and 335s as well as Roland drums, synthesisers, and keyboards.
  • Snack and shop. Star Cafe is open to the public; situated in the Italian Renaissance-style main foyer, this eatery has specialist teas, fresh cakes, cold drinks, toasties, and paninis. There is also a merch store, open daily, that sells a range of band t-shirts, books, vinyl and memorabilia, alongside items from the museum’s temporary exhibitions past and present.
