About COCK

“The fact is that some of us like women and some like men and that’s fine that’s good in fact that’s good, a good thing, but it seems to me that you’ve become confused.”

John (Jonathan Bailey) is happy in himself, and with his boyfriend (Joel Harper-Jackson), until one day he meets the woman of his dreams (Jade Anouka).

In a world full of endless possibilities why must we still limit ourselves with labels?

Mike Bartlett’s razor sharp play about love and identity redefines the battle of the sexes as we know it.

Tell Me More

One minute, you’re in a loving relationship. Your doting partner is there to satisfy every need. The next, they’re seeing somebody of the opposite sex, and your love life is conflicted. But can you stay amicable? Mike Bartlett’s relationship play Cock explores a tangled romance. Book Cock tickets in London on TodayTix.

At the start of Cock, audiences see two men, John and his boyfriend, M. They’ve been together for a while, comfortable and assured that their relationship will stand the test of time. But one day, John leaves his boyfriend to pursue W — the woman of his dreams. Asking tough questions about the stigma of labelling sexuality as well as monogamy, Cock aims to redefine the battle of the sexes in a 90-minute powerhouse play.

Since 2009, the provocatively-named play Cock in London has astounded critics with its ability to touch audiences. When it premiered at the Royal Court, Cock was considered a “sharp, witty study” in The Guardian. Cock even won awards, taking home an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre. Its West End premiere is sure to explore themes of sexual fluidity too, especially with Marianne Elliot directing, who famously directed the gender-swapped revival of Company.

The final Cock scene is meant to resemble a cock fight, and we’re curious to see how the creative team will stage it. Merle Hansel will be in charge of the Cock scenic design, with sound by Ian Dickson and choreography by Annie-Lunette Deakin-Foster. With an all-star cast too, Cock is bound to be one of the must-see London plays of 2022.
