*CATS* is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous productions and has become a global classic since its world premiere, having performed in more than 54 countries, translated into 23 languages, and seen by more than 77 million people worldwide. 

This brand-new restaging of the show is running for a limited summer season before it begins touring the UK through July 2027, with Drew McOnie’s direction and choreography, bringing a dance-forward approach to the story of the Jellicle cats and their beloved once-a-year gathering. 

The creative team includes set, costume, and wig designer Sami Fendall, lighting designer Jessica Hung Han Yun, sound designer Adam Fisher, and resident director and choreographer Josh Baker. With its gorgeous open-air setting and large ensemble cast, this production is bringing *CATS* back to London in fresh form. 

## What to watch for 

- There is a 2019 film adaptation of the musical *CATS* directed by Tom Hooper. 
- *CATS* was nominated for six Laurence Olivier Awards in 1981, and won two, including Best New Musical.
- The original Broadway production was nominated for eleven Tony Awards and won seven of them, including Best Musical.  The London production of *CATS* ran for 21 years while the Broadway production ran for 18. It was the longest-running musical in both theatre districts.

**Regent's Park Open Air Theatre** is a London-based theatre venue that sits within a beautiful Royal Park. Offering a unique and innovative style of performing arts, the outdoor venue, encapsulated by the lush park surroundings, creates a magical and immersive theatrical experience. The theatre holds a capacity of 1,240 individuals, showcasing a variety of performances from classic Shakespearean plays to modern contemporary pieces, and even musicals. It was established in 1932, and the uniqueness of the venue has since then captivated the hearts of both Londoners and guests from all around the world. The theatre's characteristic feature - total exposure to the elements - often compels creative interpreters to rethink and reshape their performances, resulting in unforgettable renderings of familiar plays. Spectators can also enjoy food and drinks at the theatre's bar and grill.

**How to get to the venue:** The theatre is based close to Baker Street and Great Portland Street underground stations thereby making it easily accessible by underground trains. Alternatively, several bus routes also operate in the vicinity of the park. If you prefer a scenic ride, cycle docking stations are located at nearby Albany Street and Marylebone Road for those who prefer to cycle or walk. Keep in mind that there is only limited parking available around Regent's Park, so public transport is advised.

The Open Air Theatre has been a permanent feature in London’s Regent’s Park since 1932. The outdoor theatre is leased by The Royal Parks to The New Shakespeare Company Ltd which is a registered charity and a not-for-profit company. The season mainly takes place between May to September. 

Regent's Park Open Air Theatre has a seating capacity of 1,240, and welcomes audiences to new revivals and award-winning shows all summer long.
