The creative team behind Fun Home features composer Jeanine Tesori, known for her brilliant compositions in shows like Caroline, or Change, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Kimberly Akimbo, among others. Lisa Kron, who received acclaim for her play Well, wrote the heartfelt and insightful book for Fun Home.

Fun Home premiered at the Public Theater in New York City before transferring to Broadway, where it received numerous awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical.

What to Watch For

  • Fun Home is based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir of the same name. The 2006 memoir received critical acclaim for its portrayal of Alison's relationship with her father. After an Off-Broadway debut in 2013, the show transferred to Broadway in 2015.
  • Fun Home made history with its all-female writing team. Lisa Kron wrote the book and lyrics, while Jeanine Tesori composed the music.
  • A major success at the 2015 Tony Awards, Fun Home received twelve nominations and won five awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
  • The Bechdel Test, used as a measure used to evaluate the representation of women in fiction, is named after Alison Bechdel herself. A piece of work must have at least two named women conversing about something other than a man to pass the Bechdel test.
