Pinchgut Opera makes its exciting debut at The Joan with a delightful concert celebrating the wit, charm and theatrical brilliance of the Baroque. Pinchgut brings its acclaimed artists to Penrith for the very first time in an irresistible program of humour, heart and exquisite music.
This captivating selection of cantatas by J.S. Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann features acclaimed opera singers Ariana Ricci, Nicholas Jones and Morgan Pearse, alongside an ensemble of specialist Baroque players. This special concert presentation brings these miniature musical dramas vividly to life with all the colour and expressive brilliance for which Pinchgut is renowned.
Bach’s Coffee Cantata is a witty musical snapshot of 18th-century life, capturing the joyful tug-of-war between a coffee-loving daughter and her disapproving father. In contrast, Telemann’s Canary Cantata offers a heartfelt tribute following the death of a beloved pet. Completing the program is Bernier’s celebrated Le Caffé (Coffee), a delightful work that was frequently performed at the Court of Versailles.
1hr 15min. No Interval.

BY TRAIN: The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre is a short walk from Penrith Station via Penrith Plaza.
BY CAR: Traveling from Sydney and the Blue Mountains, take the Mulgoa Road exit from the M4. Continue along Mulgoa Road and turn into High Street. Travel time from Sydney CBD can vary. The M4 can become quite congested with commuter traffic on Friday evenings so it is a good idea to allow extra travel time.
Generally, the trip by car takes an hour from the CBD. Travelling from the Blue Mountains is fairly straight forward (though extra time should be given for Sunday afternoon travel).
