Jo Tan, acclaimed playwright-performer from Singapore, is back at the Sydney Fringe 2026! After being nominated for Best In Theatre at the Sydney Fringe 2025 with ''King'', they are back with their latest one-person play, The Happier Place, a dark comedy about the role of art in a world that is slowly losing its mind (sounds familiar, anybody?).
When Val - a deejay on a Singapore morning radio show - interviews a socially-conscious content creator, the chirpy on-air conversation soon spirals into a heated debate when it becomes apparent that Val's partner is conspicuously absent. Also, what horrifying cataclysm is happening in the outside world that listeners are frantically calling in about?
The Happier Place takes a wry look at the role of art in a world that is keeping calm and carrying on amidst an apocalypse. How much should entertainment stave off reality in an increasingly tumultuous world?

GETTING TO THE VENUE
BY BUS:
Bus lines 200, 311, 333, 396 and 440 stop near Qtopia Sydney. The walk from both Kings Cross and Museum Stations is approximately 15 minutes in duration.
BY CAR:
Street parking is largely ticketed. Parking is available in St Vincent’s Hospital car park, a 5 minute walk from Forbes Street Darlinghurst. Wilson Carpark at 70 Riley Street is a 10 minute walk from Qtopia Sydney.
