With its exquisite melodies, sweeping drama, delicate introspection and powerful displays of emotion, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 embodies the passions of the soul.
Performed by Alexander Gavrylyuk, Tchaikovsky’s work is the perfect showpiece for a pianist praised by the Sydney Morning Herald as bringing the “finest pianistic art” to the stage.
Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles brings Debussy’s evocative Images for Orchestra to life in deft, musical strokes. In these beautifully rendered Impressionist visions of England, Spain and France at the dawn of the 20th century you can almost see the bustling streets and undulating landscapes. Here it’s contrasted by Dutilleux’s Métaboles, a work of imaginative and subtle transformations, creating a dreamlike map of a new, spellbinding soundworld, interweaving ideas and structures.
