More information about White Girl in Danger

White Girl in Danger features a 12-person cast, with Keesha as the main character. She takes over the stories, lives, and even relationships of three white girls: Meagan Whitehead, Maegan Whitehall, and Megan White.

White Girl in Danger is the second major musical from Jackson. His first was A Strange Loop, which won a Pulitzer Prize and multiple Off-Broadway awards in 2020 and the Best Musical Tony Award for its 2022 Broadway premiere.

Directing is Lileana Blain-Cruz, who got a Best Direction of a Play Tony nomination for The Skin of Our Teeth in 2022. She also received an Obie Award for directing Marys Seacole at Lincoln Center Theater.

What to Watch For

  • Jackson originally wanted to be a soap opera writer. He watched soap operas like Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless with his great-aunt as a child, and he even interned with All My Children in college!
  • The White Girl in Danger musical spoofs the melodramatic plots and traits of these shows, as well as Lifetime movies.
  • The first production of White Girl in Danger was a concert staging at New York Stage and Film in 2021, but Jackson has been working on the show since 2017.
  • Latoya Edwards, who sang the role of Keesha in the 2021 concert, returns to the role for White Girl in Danger off Broadway.
  • White Girl in Danger is a mini-Strange Loop reunion! In addition to Jackson, choreographer Raja Feather Kelly and actor James Jackson, Jr. are involved with this production.
