About Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical

Take a trip back to Hawkins, Indiana: 1983… when times were simpler, hair was bigger, and unsupervised children were getting snatched by inter-dimensional creatures.

STRANGER SINGS! THE PARODY MUSICAL is a wild and irreverent send-up of the hit Netflix series - and all it's campy 1980's glory.

Join Mike, Eleven, Lucas, Dustin, and the whole Hawkins gang for a night of adventure, thrills, indulgent pop culture references, pubescent angst, heavy synth, poor parenting, convoluted love triangles, cheap effects, singing monsters, and maybe, just maybe... justice for everyone’s favorite missing ginger, Barb Holland.

WINNER! 7 Broadway World Awards including BEST NEW MUSICAL!

“A topsy-turvy take on the ‘UPSIDE DOWN’... extra delightful and refreshing.” -TimeOut

Quirky, Entertaining, Funny, Great staging, Great singing

See it if you are familiar with the first season of the Netflix show and would enjoy the parody. Hard working cast with great timing.

Don’t see it if if you don’t appreciate Theater in the round where action is away from you and lighting is on you instead of actors.

So. much. fun., Must see, Enchanting, Clever, Delightful

See it if you're a Stranger Things fan—if so, it's a must-see. From the very first moment it was a pure delight! So fun & funny! You'll leave smiling!

Don’t see it if you didn't watch the show. It won't make sense to you & you won't find it funny. Being familiar with what they're parodying is essential.

More information about Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical

The '80s are back! Stranger Sings, the musical parody show based on Netflix's Stranger Things, is back to turn New York upside down for a second time. Get Stranger Sings: The Parody Musical tickets on TodayTix.

Stranger Sings is a musical featuring all your favorite Stranger Things characters: Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Hopper, Joyce, and more. Plus plenty of singing monsters. The show's high-stakes adventures — in which the teenagers of Hawkins, Indiana battle interdimensional creatures from the Upside Down to save their town and the world — are lovingly spoofed on stage in this show. If you think there's a lot of big hair, '80s music hits, and parental un-supervision in the TV show, Stranger Sings plays all that up to the max (no pun intended).

Jonathan Hogue, who wrote the book, music, and lyrics for Stranger Sings off Broadway, made his New York debut as a writer with the show. The musical was first presented as a one-night concert at Feinstein's/54 Below in 2018, about a year after the second Stranger Things season came out. Its first full production took place in 2021 at The Players Theatre, and now, on the heels of Stranger Things's buzzy fourth season, the musical parody is back.

The 2021 production won seven BroadwayWorld Off-Broadway Awards including Best New Musical, and after Stranger Sings wraps in New York this year, the show will go up in Melbourne and London.

What to Watch For

  • Some of the songs in Stranger Sings include "Where There's a Will," a pun on the name of the character Will, and "Barb's Turn," a riff on the iconic finale song "Rose's Turn" from the musical Gypsy.
  • If you can't get enough of the songs after hearing them, or want to know what to expect ahead of time, Stranger Sings has a cast album available for streaming online.
  • The cast of Stranger Things on Netflix isn't in this musical, but lots of Stranger Things cast members have been on Broadway. To name a few: Sadie Sink (Max) played the title character of Annie, Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) played Young Simba in The Lion King, and Gaten Matarazzo's (Dustin) latest of three Broadway credits is as Jared in Dear Evan Hansen.
  • Stranger Sings is one of multiple Off-Broadway parody musicals of popular TV shows playing right now, along with The Office! A Musical Parody and Friends! The Musical Parody.
