LA Phil Select: $25 tickets

Oct 16–18: Elim Chan, incoming music director of the San Francisco Symphony, leads her own restructured take on Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, praised for conducting "as if she were born to conduct ballet" (San Francisco Chronicle). Yefim Bronfman joins for a blazing Liszt Second Piano Concerto, bringing full Romantic drama and showmanship to the stage.

Oct 20: LA Phil musicians perform Mendelssohn's technically fiendish Piano Trio No. 2, so demanding the composer himself called it "a trifle nasty to play," followed by Brahms' String Sextet No. 2, written in the aftermath of a broken relationship and full of both warmth and melancholy. The evening opens with a complimentary glass of wine for an intimate night of chamber music.

Oct 22–25: Elim Chan leads Debussy's hazy, Impressionist Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Stravinsky's bold, Picasso-esque Petrushka, two orchestral showpieces built for the LA Phil's vivid color and attack. Violinist Karen Gomyo gives the world premiere of Samuel Adams' new Violin Concerto in between, a rare chance to hear brand-new music the night it's born.

Oct 23: Grammy-nominated Andrew Bird marks the 20th anniversary of his acclaimed album The Mysterious Production of Eggs, performed top-to-bottom with new orchestral arrangements by the LA Phil. He closes the night with a run of fan favorites from his nearly thirty-year career, a rare pairing of indie-folk songwriting with a full symphony orchestra.

Oct 25: French organist Lucile Dollat makes her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut, leading listeners through four centuries of French organ music from Balbastre to the present day. Fanfare calls her "a superb interpreter, with complete command of the style and vivid imagination in her use of color," an intimate way to experience the Hall's famous pipe organ.
