The Last Ship is a musical rooted in Sting’s childhood spent in Wallsend. It follows a North East shipbuilding community facing the closure of the yard that has defined its identity. As the town faces uncertainty, themes of love, grief, and loyalty collide in a deeply personal story.

The Last Ship features music and lyrics by Sting and a new book by Barney Norris, from a book by Lorne Campbell, based on an original book by John Logan and Brian Yorkey. Sting first developed the musical in 2011, drawing great inspiration from his 1991 album The Soul Cages and the fond memories of growing up near the shipyards of Wallsend.
This production features a company of more than 50, and has earned Tony nominations for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations after its Broadway premiere in 2014.
Leo Warner directs the show, with set and props designer Jenny Melville, costume designer Loren Elstein, lighting designer Adam Bassett, sound designer Tom Gibbons, choreographer Rebecca Howell, video designer Benjamin Pearcy, and musical supervisor and orchestrator Rob Mathes.
This production is beautifully written and features great musical performances by the man who brings his personal experiences to the stage. Audiences won’t leave disappointed.
