More information about Miss Saigon
Miss Saigon premiered in London at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 1989, where the original production ran for more than a decade. It would later open on Broadway in 1991 and quickly went on to become an international phenomenon.
Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg created the musical following the success of Les Misérables, drawing inspiration from the tragic framework of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly while setting the scene in Vietnam during the 1970s.
Miss Saigon in London is directed by Jean-Pierre van der Spuy, he is joined by co-choreographers Chrissie Cartwright and Carrie-Anne Ingrouille. Andrew D. Edwards designed the set and costumes; Bruno Poet designed the lighting; Adam Fisher handled sound; and George Reeve handled video design.
This production also features new orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe, based on William David Brohn’s original work, with additional lyrics by Michael Mahler. This also marks the musical’s first London engagement since its previous West End revival closed in 2016.
