The Story in London tells of a white teacher who has been killed in a Black neighbourhood, and four journalists are all similarly focused on being the first to break the story. But for the reporters, the investigation becomes far more about prestige than the truth.
New evidence begins to complicate the story, and with professional ambition riding on their backs, each reporter is forced to ask how far they’re willing to go to get to the bottom of things.
Letitia Wright stars as Yvonne, with Ashley Thomas as Neil, Lorraine Toussaint as Pat, and Wilf Scolding as Jeff. The wider company includes Aliyah Odoffin, Unique Spencer, Antonia Bernath, Jay Simpson, Donna Augustin, Arianne Carless, and Josh Goulding.
Directed by Clint Dyer, this production asks who truly has the power to shape the public version of a tragedy.

Interesting amd relevant exploration of race, the impact of journalism and chasing headlines.
Was a great show but the twist at the end, as in the reason, for being disciplined was a little silly. Also it seemed disjointed that she did all of the crime while being intellectual but dressing up as a gang memeber, didn’t quite connect. But it was brilliant overall
The premise was excellent, and the actors cast were stellar. But the performance was long, drawn out and trying to be too complicated and intellectualised with twists and turns. It could have been 30-45 mins shorter and landed more impact.

The Story is a play by Tracey Scott Wilson, first produced in the United States in 2003. It is now receiving its British premiere at the National Theatre, inspired by real-life controversies. It examines the pressures of journalism and how race and personal ambition can influence the stories that the public reads about.
This production also marks Letitia Wright’s National Theatre debut. The BAFTA Award-winning actor is best known for playing Shuri in Black Panther and its sequel, as she takes the central role of ambitious reporter Yvonne in The Story.
Director Clint Dyer has a history with the National Theatre, including his work on the Death of England series. He is bringing Wilson’s play to a contemporary British stage at a time when topics of misinformation, media responsibility, and representation remain important.
The creative team also includes set design by Anna Fleischle, costume design by Natalie Pryce, and lighting design by Paul Anderson.
