Deaf Republic Tickets

Deaf Republic is a play written and directed by Bush Moukarzel and Ben Kidd, the co-directors and co-writers of Dead Centre. Dead Centre is a theatre company based between Dublin and London; they’re known for productions such as The Education of Rudolf Steiner, Illness as Metaphor, and Good Sex.

The creative team also includes co-writer Zoë McWhinney (Anthony and Cleopatra), designer Jeremy Herbert (Alice Trilogy), costume designer Mae Leahy (The Misanthrope), lighting designer Azusa Ono (A Mirror), composer and sound designer Kevin Gleeson (The Weir), and video director Grant Gee (Orlando).

Deaf Republic, the book by Ilya Kaminsky, was an instant sensation, earning numerous awards and nominations, including being a Finalist for the National Book Award for Poetry, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, and a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.

What to watch for

• The New York Times reviewof Kaminsky's book said, "The poet Anthony Hecht found in Kaminsky 'a superb and vigorous imagination, a poetic talent of rare and beautiful proportions,' and part of the power of "Deaf Republic" lies in its exercise of the imagination, rather than what Kaminsky has identified as the "relentless search for irony in things."
• Bush Moukarzel and Ben Kidd founded Dead Centre in 2012 following their meeting in college when they realized they worked well together.
• Dead Centre's first project in 2012, Souvenir, was first staged in Dublin and then had success touring internationally to New York City.
• In addition to being an actor, Lisa Kelly is also a director who staged Nowhere To Escape for Deafinitely Theatre.
