Troilus and Cressida in London is set during the time of the Trojan War, beginning as a tale of romance. Prince Troilus falls madly in love with Cressida, and they vow their eternal devotion to one another. But as the war drags on and a feeling of futility sets into the bones of those fighting the languid battle, legends and their reputations are destroyed, and romance is lost. Brilliantly infused with a satirical tone, this reimagining of Troilus and Cressida promises a performance that feels freshly inspired while also ringing true to its original material.

Troilus and Cressida is, at its core, an experimental play, and it does an excellent job of straddling genres of both tragedy and comedy. It deconstructs the myths of Troy and Greece, offering the audience an intimate glimpse into the fragile egos, betrayal, and absurd events behind some of history’s greatest myths.
Owen Horsley (Twelfth Night) will direct Troilus and Cressida as his first Globe production, where he re-examines the supposed glamour of war and the heartbreak of love, leaving audiences laughing and feeling raw at the same time. In this story, great heroes like Achilles, Hector, and Ulysses are framed as deeply human and overcome with pride.
Horsley said in a recent statement, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be making my Globe directorial debut with Shakespeare’s bold and dynamic take on the Trojan War.”
This staging of Troilus and Cressida in London offers audiences a rare chance at seeing one of Shakespeare’s least staged but most compelling pieces of work.
