‘ABANDON YOURSELF TO THE MADNESS’ (The Times)
Mischief’s most critically-acclaimed adventure THE COMEDY ABOUT SPIES is ★★★★★ ‘bigger, better and more brilliantly bungling than ever’ (Daily Mail). Don’t miss the West End’s hottest ticket at London’s Noël Coward Theatre.
Mischief, the multi award-winning company behind The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, bring an uproarious 1960’s spy escapade, bursting with enough confused missions, tangled identities, and miscommunication to ‘leave you crying helpless tears of laughter.’ (Guardian).
When a rogue British agent pilfers plans for a top-secret weapon, CIA and KGB spies converge on London’s Piccadilly Hotel in pursuit of the elusive file. ‘Marvel at the comic timing and sheer physical bravura’ (The Telegraph) of a clueless young couple, a hapless actor angling for an exciting spy movie role, and enough double agents to confuse even the sharpest operative, in a mission that’s hilariously out of control.
Do not miss original Mischief company members in this ‘breathlessly funny’ romp (Time Out), packed full of ‘impeccable slapstick’ (Evening Standard) where laughter is the only weapon.

The Comedy About Spies is a play by Henry Lewis and Henry Shields, who are original members of Mischief Theatre. Together, they crafted an action-packed comedy. As Shields explained, “I think (it’s been) four years now since we first started on this project. It originally came about as a vague idea to do some sort of comedy about spies…since then, there have been so so many drafts.”
The Comedy About Spies in London has an excellent creative team which includes direction by Matt Dicarlo (The Play That Goes Wrong), set design by David Farley (Little Shop of Horrors), costume design by Deborah Andrews (Patriots), sound design and composition by Jon Fiber (The Canterville Ghost) for jollygoodtunes.
The play had a sneak peek of its opening scene in November 2024 at The Royal Variety Performance and aired in December 2024 on ITV1. This staging at Noël Coward Theatre is the world premiere of the entire production.
