Broadway smash-hit and winner of two Tony Awards, Dana H., will have its UK premiere at the Royal Court Theatre in London. Book Dana H. tickets on TodayTix.
Following a smash production at the Vineyard Theatre and a Tony Award-winning Broadway transfer, Lucas Hanth’s highly intriguing play Dana H. now comes to London. Playing at the Royal Court Theatre’s intimate Jerwood Theatre Downstairs, Dana H. is a mesmerising and haunting piece of theatre based on the life of the playwright’s mother, Dana Higginbotham.
A collection of stories about the five months when Higginbotham was abducted and held in captivity, Dana H. has a singularly simple — but no less spectacular — theatricality: acclaimed American actress Deirdre O’Connell portrays Higginbotham, lip-syncing to the audio that tells, in her own words, the story of her capture. A piece of theatre like no other, Dana H. is part true crime, part memoir, and part reflection on the fuzzy nature of good, evil, and the compassion that transcends them.

Lucas Hnath’s deeply human and profoundly theatrical new play, Dana H., astounded audiences and critics during its acclaimed New York runs on Broadway and Off-Broadway. Its UK premiere now comes to the Royal Court Theatre and brings award-winner Deirdre O’Connell across the pond to reprise her role. O’Connell, one of New York City’s most prolific stage actresses, has been an Off-Broadway legend for years before landing the role of a lifetime: Dana H.
O’Connell won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Play in 2022 for leading Dana H. on Broadway following her Off-Broadway turn. Originating the biographical role based on Hnath’s mother with a documentarian’s precision, O’Connell offered a transformative performance detailing one survivor’s account of trauma through lip sync. Director Les Waters, a former Royal Court Associate, helms this startling production. He received a Tony Award nomination for his work on the Broadway production.
