Beverley Knight and Alexandra Burke take on the role of Deloris van Cartier, with Gavin & Stacey star Ruth Jones making her West End debut as Mother Superior. Knight is set to portray Deloris from March 15 to 8 June 2024, alongside Jones, while Burke will step into the role from June 10 to 31 August 2024.
BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter Lemar is cast as Curtis Jackson, Lesley Joseph will play Sister Mary Lazarus/Mother Superior alternate, and Clive Rowe is Eddie Souther. Completing the cast is Lizzie Bea as Sister Mary Robert, Alison Jiear as Sister Mary Patrick, and Carl Mullaney as Monsignor O’Hara.
The Sister Act musical follows a similar story to the original 1992 film, but adds even more musical glamour. Sister Act sees lounge singer Deloris van Cartier placed on a witness protection programme, so to cover her identity she finds herself in a convent. Jazz singing and choral hymns don’t appear to have much in common, but what the sisters and Deloris do share is a love of music, community and togetherness. As the sisters and Deloris spend time together, everyone finds their voice and discovers their almighty good.
