About Standing at the Sky's Edge

As the dawn breaks over roof slates, you won’t want to miss the West End transfer of this new British musical. See this love letter to Sheffield and book Standing At The Sky’s Edge tickets on TodayTix.

London Theatre raves about Standing At The Sky’s Edge saying: “This soul-stirring Sheffield musical is a true homegrown triumph.”

Standing At The Sky’s Edge spans three generations, delving into the intertwined lives of occupants in a single Park Hill flat in Sheffield. Watch as these characters navigate the political upheavals of their era, which include Thatcherism, the steel industry's decline, gentrification, and the impact of Brexit.

1960 Rose and Harry start anew in the newly constructed "streets in the sky," chasing their dreams. Decades later, Jimmy and his wife Joy, a Liberian refugee, confront societal challenges while striving for happiness in Sheffield. The final story unfolds in the 2010s, as middle-class Poppy moves into the fashionable, redeveloped flat block.

What to Watch For

  • The construction of Park Hill, a housing estate in Sheffield, took place between 1957 and 1961. It was granted Grade II listed building status in 1998, making it the largest listed building in Europe.
  • The musical takes its name, Standing At The Sky’s Edge, from the title track of Richard Hawley’s seventh studio album.
  • Ben Stones’ brutalist-inspired concrete set design includes a neon sign that reads, “I love you will u marry me”. These words were graffitied across a bridge linking two buildings on the Park Hill Estate and became an iconic permanent fixture.
