As one of the longest-running West End shows, with a 12-year run at the Dominion Theatre, We Will Rock You is a massive hit among theatregoers and Queen fans alike. The show has been performed around the world, and millions of audience members have rocked out to some of the most popular Queen songs, including “Somebody to Love,” “Under Pressure,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody,” among many others. Plus, for the first time, the British comedian, actor and We Will Rock You creator Ben Elton will join the cast. He'll play the Rebel Leader, an aging librarian who helps the Bohemians.
We Will Rock You follows two young rebels, Galileo and Scaramouche, who live 300 years in the future in a world controlled by the evil corporation Globalsoft. The company outlaws musical instruments, and dictates what everyone should watch, wear, and listen to. After getting arrested and escaping the clutches of Globalsoft’s leader Killer Queen, the two misfits join a group of bohemians to overthrow the corporation. Can Galileo and Scaramouche fulfil the prophecy and bring real music back to the world?

Queen fans will be happy to know that both Brian May and Roger Taylor were involved in We Will Rock You. Ben Elton, who wrote the book, came up with the idea for a futuristic, dystopian setting as the backdrop, and collaborated with May and Taylor on how to incorporate the band's songs to tell the story.
Elton has written numerous plays and musicals, two of which he collaborated on with Andrew Lloyd Webber: The Beautiful Game and Love Never Dies, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera. He also directed the 20th-anniversary tour of We Will Rock You.
The fans are what have undoubtedly kept this show alive and thriving for so many years. In fact, the musical received the Audience Award for Most Popular Show at the 2011 Olivier Awards. With over 4,600 performances at the Dominion Theatre in the West End and thousands more across the globe, We Will Rock You is an audience favorite that can’t be missed.
What to Watch For:
- Both Brian May and Roger Taylor have made dozens of guest appearances in We Will Rock You performances. They often join to play “Bohemian Rhapsody,” typically for special occasions, premieres, closings, and even cast changes.
- The band first talked about doing a musical in 1996 when Robert De Niro, whose daughter is a big Queen fan, showed interest in the subject.
- On 5 September, 2006, which would’ve been Freddie Mercury’s 60th birthday, the band McFly came on stage to perform “Don’t Stop Me Now.” May and Taylor also performed a duet of Taylor’s “Say It’s Not True.”
- The revival is playing at the London Coliseum, where Freddie Mercury performed for the Royal Ballet gala in 1979. He sang and danced along with the Royal Ballet to “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”
