About Cinderella The Musical

The much-anticipated World Premiere of ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER’S CINDERELLA begins performances at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on 25 June, a new romantic musical comedy featuring an original story and book by 2021 OSCAR winner EMERALD FENNELL (Promising Young Women)and lyrics by Tony & Olivier award winner DAVID ZIPPEL (City of Angels). LAURENCE CONNOR (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, School of Rock) directs with choreography by JOANNE HUNTER.

Welcome to Bellville! The most aggressively picturesque town in the history of the world, populated exclusively with gorgeous townsfolk who stop at nothing to achieve perfection. Bellville is fairy tale come to life: a place where you can’t move without falling over a wishing well or a quivering milkmaid. Maintaining this façade is a full time job, and one that is taken very seriously indeed.

The only person steadfastly refusing to live in the fairy tale is Cinderella, loud-mouthed, dripping with disdain, and more likely to roast Hansel and Gretel for dinner than play the demure and downtrodden maid, Cinderella is desperate to escape. But underneath it all, the loneliness that comes with being the town pariah is wearing on her.

Tell Me More

Audiences shouldn’t expect to see a prim and proper princess in this brand new adaptation of Cinderella. Instead, the “Cinderella story” is turned on its head, reinventing everything you know about her. Cinderella is now a fierce, independent woman, where nothing gets in her own way. Cinders still wants to be true to herself though, difficult in a town that’s stuck in its ways. The world premiere of Cinderella is opening at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London, so you’ll want to book Cinderella tickets to be one of the first to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s newest musical.

The Cinderella script is written by Emerald Fennell, whose best-known works include Killing Eve, the hit BBC drama with plenty of twists and turns. We’re expecting a similar style from this musical, accompanied by a pop-rock musical score from Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippel. Get ready for this Cinderella to blow your mind.
