Following a sold out run at the National Theatre, the acclaimed production of The Ocean at the End of the Lane transfers to the West End this October.

Returning to his childhood home, a man finds himself standing beside the pond of the old Sussex farmhouse where he used to play. He’s transported to his 12th birthday when his friend Lettie claimed it wasn’t a pond, but an ocean…Plunged into a magical world, their survival depends on their ability to reckon with ancient forces that threaten to destroy everything around them.

Adapted from the best-selling Neil Gaiman novel by Joel Horwood and directed by Katy Rudd, this spectacular and thrilling adventure is a tour de force of imagination and storytelling.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane play is based on Neil Gaiman's best-selling fantasy novel. If you've read the book, then you'll have to see the stage show.   • The play adaptation of The Ocean at the End of the Lane is by Joel Horwood. Joel Horwood is a British playwright who has also worked on television shows including Skin.
  • The Ocean at the End of the Lane received its world premiere at the National’s Dorfman Theatre in 2019. The Ocean at the End of the Lane only played for two months, but definitely made an impact on the London stage.
  • Paule Constable won an Olivier Award for their lighting design. The show was also nominated for Best New Play and Best Supporting Actress (for Josie Walker).
  • The original cast starred Samuel Blenkinas Boy and Jade Croot as Sis. They received many five star reviews for their National Theatre run.
  • In 2013, Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane was voted the Book of the Year in the National British Book Awards. Other books by Gaiman include American Gods and Caroline.
