About Bill Bailey - Larks in Transit

Larks in Transit is a compendium of travellers tales and the general shenanigans of twenty years as a travelling comedian. With musical virtuosity, surreal tangents and trademark intelligence, Bill Bailey tackles politics, philosophy and the pursuit of happiness. Plus, he fashions a symphony from a ringtone, tells the real story of Old McDonald, and a re-imagines the Stars and Stripes.

Two decades of touring larks from a comic described by the Daily Telegraph as the brainiest comic of his generation.

More information about Bill Bailey - Larks in Transit

Fans of satire, exotic instruments, and inane bird calls are in for the ultimate evening when seeing Bill Bailey’s latest comedic triumph, “Larks in Transit.” Running over two hours with an interval, this one-of-a-kind comedy special has dimension and purpose, more of a full-on performance than your typical night of stand-up. Most famous for his starring role in the hit Channel 4 series “Black Books,” Bailey is already a fixture of the British comedy scene – “approaching the status of a national treasure” according to The Guardian Guide.

“Larks in Transit” emphasizes Bailey’s knack for making the absurd accessible, softening the surreal with a dose of silliness. A prevailing theme in this show is the arcane segmentation of time, a fairly heady concept that Bailey deftly couches in pop culture gags, prolonged musical interludes, and mild Brexit jabs.

What to watch for

Bill Bailey has the rare gift of “perfect pitch” which lends to his musical talents. He claims he has the ability to identify the exact pitch of “not just instruments but washing machines, vacuum cleaners, dentists' drills.”

Since touring in Australia and New Zealand, “Larks and Transit” has undergone numerous changes almost to the point of being an entirely different show. Bailey changes his shows based on different audiences and new ideas, never settling on a static finished product. Audiences attending “Larks in Transit” should expect something fresh each time.

Bailey is currently filming a new comedy drama entitled “In the Long Run” for Sky 1 alongside Idris Elba, who created the show. The series is semi-autobiographical for Elba.
