About Volcano

★★★★★ “Like an episode of Black Mirror on steroids” –The Irish Times
“Superbly Inventive… exhilarating” – The Guardian
Part theater, part dance, part sci-fi thriller, Volcano is a live performance for the mini–series era. Acclaimed director and performer Luke Murphy (Sleep No More) leads us on a voyeuristic journey in a glass-enclosed living room of disrepair somewhere between earth and space, reality and fiction. Two people recreate the greatest hits of their old lives, clinging to memories of a life out of reach.
Presented in association with Irish Arts Center
In partnership with the 2024 Under the Radar Festival

Run time

Volcano is a four-part mini-series of 45-minute “episodes.” All four episodes run 3h and 30m with intervals and pauses between each episode. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

Great dancing, Absorbing, Great staging, Ambitious

See it if you’d be intrigued by a dark sci-fi dance theater or are a fan of Crystal Pite’s and Dimitris Papaioannou’s work

Don’t see it if you’d prefer more traditional structure or can’t stomach the nearly 4-hour run time (I was engaged throughout and it flew by)

Great staging, Indulgent, Riveting, Virtuosic

See it if you want to see a marriage of concert dance and theater.

Don’t see it if you can't do the run time or abstract movement pieces.

Long!, Great staging, Edgy, Absorbing, Ambitious

See it if you like the challenge of experimental theater. Lots to think about but you have to be open to the ambiguity.

Don’t see it if you like straightforward stories that aren't very complex and can't sit for a show that is almost four hours long.

Must see, Intelligent, Profound, Intense, Great staging

See it if You love experimental theater, great productions, and dance.

Don’t see it if It's long but worth it in my opinion. I can understand if length is too much. Most of the audience did stay though.
