The Pacific Jazz Orchestra returns to The Wallis for its highly anticipated third appearance—this time joined by two of Africa’s most soulful and celebrated artists: Lokua Kanza and Charlotte Dipanda. Together, they create a rich musical tapestry woven from Afro-pop, jazz, and traditional African rhythms.
Led by Artistic Director Christopher Walden, the Pacific Jazz Orchestra is one of Southern California’s newest and most dynamic large ensembles, dedicated to reimagining the big band tradition through bold cross-cultural collaborations. Known for its stylistic range and cinematic scope, the orchestra has quickly become a force in shaping the future of jazz performance.
Lokua Kanza, the acclaimed Congolese singer and multi-instrumentalist, brings his signature blend of soul, folk, and global influences—sung in Lingala, French, Swahili, and English. Cameroonian star Charlotte Dipanda enchants with her emotive voice and heartfelt songs rooted in Makossa, Bikutsi, and Afro-jazz traditions.
