More information about Hungry Ghost

After inheriting a remote house from her estranged mother, Dean and her partner Amanda are preparing to start a family. Their plans, though, are upended when their house gets burgled by a trickster hiding out in the woods. But the mysterious culprit can’t be too bad — apparently, the swindler loves Stevie Nicks and hot Cheetos.

For Skylight Theatre’s 40th anniversary season, Skylight is celebrating women’s visions and voices in theatre. Hungry Ghost joins Erlina Ortiz’s La Egoist and Elizabeth Dement’s No Place Like Gandersheim to complete Skylight’s exciting new lineup of productions written and directed by women.

Jessica Hanna, an award-winning director and producer, collaborates with Lisa Sanaye Dring to direct Hungry Ghost. Hanna and Dring collaborated together before on Dring’s Death Play for both the festival premiere in 2015 and its production at the Circle X Theatre in 2016. Lisa Sanaye Dring’s play, SUMO, will hit the stage in the fall of 2023 with co-productions at La Jolla Playhouse and May-Yi Theater Company. Dring received the 2020-21 Ovation Awards PLAY LA Stage Raw/Humanitas Prize as well as multiple Ovation Awards.
