The story follows Dorothy Gale, a young girl transported from Kansas to the magical Land of Oz when a tornado hits. There, she embarks on a journey to find the Wizard, hoping he can help her to return home. Along the way, Dorothy builds friendships and finds courage. Experience the Academy Award-winning song “Over the Rainbow” live, along with unforgettable tunes like “Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard.”

The Musical Theatre West’s production stars Leianna Weaver as Dorothy, Erik Scott Romney as The Scarecrow, Michael James as The Tin Man, and William Hartley as The Cowardly Lion. Join Dorothy on her journey to meet The Wizard, played by Jason Graae. Glinda the Good Witch, Sarah Uriate Berry, is pinned against Erica Hanrahan, The Wicked Witch of the West. This cast is full of award-winning actors and destined for theatre magic!

The Royal Shakespeare Company in London first performed The Wizard of Oz musical in 1987. John Kane wrote the musical’s book, incorporating the film’s music and dialogue. Although the 1987 version of the musical is not the original, it is the version most closely related to the film. The first version of the musical was from author L. Frank Baum and premiered in Chicago in 1902 before performing on Broadway. In c produced its version of the musical adapted by Frank Gabrielson.

What to Watch For

  • Hank, the dog, is the show's adorable, furry, four-legged highlight. The Musical Theatre West cast Hank as Dorothy’s sidekick dog Toto. Audiences will be in awe and gush over the talents of the cute, energetic dog actor.
  • The Wizard of Oz production features elaborate special effects that will wow audiences of all ages. Magic spells from Oz and flying monkeys are just a few of the epic effects that bring the musical to life.
  • A 14-piece orchestra performs the musical’s score. The captivating music by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, along with additional background music by Herbert Stothart, fills the theatre during the show.
  • The cast of The Wizard of Oz includes an inspiring and impressive youth ensemble! With over 10 young actors, some as young as 6, the ensemble is filled with talent. Director Paige Price is hopeful that the younger cast members will spark a love for theatre among the children in the audience.
