Organized, curated, and produced by Jean-Michel Basquiat’s family, this exhibit celebrates the late artist’s singular vision and creative life with never-before-seen paintings, drawings, and more. YOUNG KINGS: HOLLYWOOD AFRICANS AND THE '80'S ART SCENE: Friday, October 20, 2023 at 5:30pm - Join Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux, co-administrators of the Basquiat Estate, for a rare conversation with Jean-Michel's friends. Artist and painter Lee Quiñones who pioneered the subway painting movement, and American contemporary artist Toxic will discuss graffiti art, their friendship with Jean-Michel, and share stories from NYC and LA in the 1980s. The panel will be followed by an after-party with a special DJ set by Toxic and cocktails for those +21 by Olga Vodka and Madre Mezcal. Space is limited.

Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the most influential artists of all time. Born in 1960 to Haitian and Puerto Rican parents, Jean-Michel Basquiat found his unique voice in graffiti art in the late 1970s and achieved artistic fame during the 1980s as part of the neo-expressionist movement. He famously collaborated with Andy Warhol during this period. Jean-Michel Basquiat died in 1988 at the age of 27, leaving behind a body of work that continues to inspire and challenge audiences today.

Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure features over 200 rare and previously unseen artworks, as well as artifacts and ephemera from the artist’s personal life, including childhood cartoons and illustrations from his teenage years.

On the first Thursday of every month, come check out Family Art Nights to create your own artwork after viewing the exhibit. With a different teaching artist every time, this immersive event starts at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month and runs for approximately 45 minutes. The workshop is first come, first served and available to the first 100 guests who participate.   • Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure features artifacts from Jean-Michel Baquiat’s life. Along with previously unseen drawings and paintings, this personal exhibition features items from Jean-Michel Basquiet’s life, including his VHS collection and his bicycle.
  • Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure is an immersive experience. This must-see exhibition features immersive installments of spaces that were important to Jean-Michel Basquiat, including his childhood home and his art studio.
