What musical to see based on your favorite Peloton instructor
There are classic pairings in life like cookies and milk, bagels and lox, peanut butter and jelly. And then there are pairings where the two are so intertwined that how do you have one without the other?
Yes, we are here to say that Peloton and showtunes are nothing without each other. Where would we be without a Wicked ride to get us through our Sunday scaries? Have you taken the Hamilton ride for the 15th time because we need that goosebump evoking inspiration? Peloton and Broadway are the new bagels and lox.
They are so classically complementary that we’ve crafted recommendations for you based on your favorite instructor. You hear that, the intermission is over, y’all (imagine Robin yelling that at you), so you better put your crown on, because we only ride (to the theatre) with royalty.
Alex Toussaint and Hadestown
The power! The passion! The fire! A ride with Alex Toussaint is a majestic experience, and, much like Broadway’s 2019 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, an evening spent with Alex (or Hadestown) is one with great reward. But really, do we need to explain ourselves further with this one? We think not!
Christine D’Ercole and Mamma Mia
If there’s any Peloton instructor donning overalls and dancing through the streets of Greece, it’s our girl Christine! If you too are prepping to dance-walk through the streets, might we suggest an Endurance Ride? Or if that’s not your speed, Christine also has a classic RENT ride!
Cody Rigsby and Once Upon a One More Time
The former dancer has a sweet spot for Disney and the best female performers of the 90s (hey, Brit and Spice Girls!), so while it was a real toss up of which show Cody would be first in line for, we ultimately landed on him space shipping into DC for the new Britney Spears-meets-classic-fairytales musical. You better believe he’s going all in and showing up in a red jumpsuit with a boa casually hanging off his shoulders.
Robin Arzon and Hamilton
There was never a question in our mind that Robin would be back in the audience at Hamilton as soon as possible. And would you believe it, but as we were writing this up she posted about her “full body chills” at Hamilton. So listen, you gotta trust us! And if you can’t make it to Broadway for Hamilton, you can get on the bike and meet us on the Hamilton ride!
Denis Morton and Get Up Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical
The jam band-loving instructor has a whole series devoted to…well, jam bands and reggae as well as artist series rides for The Beatles, Weezer, and of course, Bob Marley himself. So yeah, it’s a safe bet for us that Denis would be rocking out in the aisles along to some classic Marley.
Emma Lovewell and David Byrne’s American Utopia
David Byrne is the coolest cat performing on Broadway, and we have no doubt that Emma Lovewell is the coolest Peloton instructor. She’s breezy and she’s sweet, but she packs quite a punch. David Byrne’s Broadway outing, American Utopia, is very much the same.
Hannah Corbin and Chicago
We’re convinced Hannah Corbin jazz-hands her way through all moments in life. And we mean that as nothing short of the highest compliment! While she’s no stranger to a Broadway-themed ride or two, we’re ready to sit front row with her and Velma Kelly any day.
Hannah Frankson and & Juliet
Live from the London studios, it’s Hannah Frankson! The queen of #PushPush knows how to bring fire and spunk to her pop-fueled rides. It’s hard for us to imagine that she wouldn’t absolutely adore & Juliet in the West End: There’s no other stage where you can see this much swagger and power backed by nothing but absolute bangers (I mean, “Since U Been Gone?” “Show Me Love?” C’mon!)
Jenn Sherman and Jersey Boys
There are classics. And then there are classics. Jenn Sherman and the Jersey Boys are a classic duo. If anyone’s riding to a sold-out show from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, it’s our girl Jenn.
Jess King and Six
There are Broadway fans and then there’s Jess King. Her Thursday Jess King Experience is a production in its own right and has paid homage to Rocky Horror Picture Show, Halloween, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, and whatever this was, not to mention her multiple Broadway–themed rides. So while it’s hard to pick just one show for Jess King, we had to go with Six. This Spice Girls-meets-history-meets-cheeky-humor combo is exactly what we’d expect from Jess.
Jess Sims and Matilda The Musical
Prior to joining Peloton, the Strength and Tread instructor was a school teacher. She perfectly balances a Miss Honey vibe with just a bit of spice to keep you pushing harder in her classic Flash 15. Who knows, maybe she’ll even help you unlock your own magical inner child.
Kendall Toole and Jagged Little Pill
Jagged Little Pill is a musical (and an album) that celebrates the fire and angst in all of us, and Kendall Toole knows how to make us roar and rage on the bike. After you’re done rocking out on the bike with Kendall, you’ll be ready to rock out in a Broadway theatre.
Leanne Hainsby and Wicked
Leanne has been far from shy about her love of Broadway and especially Wicked, including a showstopping Wicked ride that should be bookmarked and your go-to ride with your best friend. Or, you know, us! We’re available to ride to Wicked any day of the week.
Matty Maggiacomo and Moulin Rouge! The Musical
Let’s be real, friends! No one does drama, excess, glitter, and COSTUMES like Matty Maggiacomo. A class with Matty is always a party — and a night out at Moulin Rouge! The Musical is just as much of a celebration. Plus, Matty is a huge theatre buff, and he’s let the world know he is a big fan of this sweeping romantic theatrical event.
Olivia Amato and Mean Girls
We love Olivia. If you’re having a rough day and you need to workout to the point that you may be crying, Olivia is your queen. And that’s why we have to see Mean Girls with her! The feisty, catty, love ’em one minute, hate ’em the next drama paired with its uplifting moments is exactly how you’ll feel in an Olivia ride. And don’t get us started on her core workouts.
Sam Yo and Waitress
Sweet, sugary goodness is how we’d describe both Waitress and Sam Yo’s megawatt smile. The former monk would totally throw on an apron and get down with Sara Bareilles.
Tunde Oyeneyin and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical
There are two things that immediately come to mind when we think of both Tunde and Tina: high energy and showstopping lipstick. The two women bring a sheer, unbeatable presence when they take the stage and we are here for it every day of the week. You can take fellow instructor Ally Love’s Tina Turner ride any day.
