An Open Letter To Imelda Staunton

In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Imelda Staunton stated that she would be very happy to see food and drink banned in theatres. It can be incredibly annoying to listen to someone chomping away in the middle of a show, the very thing that inspired our exclusive range of Silent Snacks.

Best known in movies as the wicked Professor Umbridge in Harry Potter, and as Momma in the latest revival of Gypsy, Imelda’s passionate plea comes hot on the heels of other complaints of noisy eaters. Producer Richard Jordan encountered audience members who brought McDonalds into a performance of Doctor Faustus, starring Kit Harrington.

Imelda told the Radio Times, “Definitely, I don’t know why people can’t engage in just one thing. I don’t understand this obsession with having to eat or drink something at every moment of the day.”

A total ban on food and drinks might be a tough idea for everyone to get on board with, but we have a compromise that will keep everyone happy. One where the snackers can enjoy a treat and audiences won’t be annoyed by them. We’ve decided to reach out to Imelda in a letter…

Dear Imelda,

It has come to our attention that you recently had a rustling theatre experience, so we wanted to help.

We too have taken Professor Umbrage with noisy snacks, but munching and drinking in the theatre has a long heritage dating back to Shakespearian times, so we decided a ban – especially without the backing of the Ministry of Magic – would be a tad tricky to enforce.

As a result, we created ‘Silent Snacks‘; a unique collection of food items that include silent (pop)corn, muffled truffles, and even an anti-gas drink – all designed to reduce the decibels of delicacy distraction to practically nothing – ensuring actors and spectators alike have a great experience.

Anyway, we’d like to offer you the chance to be the first official ambassador for TodayTix’s Silent Snack range and would love you to get in touch by phone, email or owl.

Silent snacks are the way forward for people who are 100% over crisp crunching and wrapper rustling! We hope Imelda will feel the same way too.
