From Cyndi Lauper (Kinky Boots) to Gary Barlow (The Girls), a good number of bands and solo artists have created hit musicals throughout the years. Whether their musicals are pulled straight from albums or original creations, it is clear that artists with a musical knack often transfer material well to the stage. Here are our top picks on who we think would make great musicals.

1. Morrissey

With touching, thoughtful lyrics and the iconic Morrissey sound, any musical of his would sit nicely on our iTunes playlist. It would probably have a bit of a Billy Elliot vibe about it, mixed with a Rebel Without A Cause type of story.

2. Lady Gaga

It would be big, bold, glamorous and like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Wouldn’t you love it if Lady Gaga created a musical?!

3. Alicia Keys

A mix of Rent and In The Heights with a stripped back version of ‘No One’ and we’d see an Alicia Keys musical every day of the week.

4. The Lonely Island

Creating some of the funniest comedy songs and sketches on the Internet, The Lonely Island could pull a Book of Mormon out of the bag and create the next hit comedy musical. Not sure who they are, watch their videos with caution here.

5. Liam and Noel Gallagher

Wouldn’t it be nice if the thing that maybe healed the turbulent relationship between Liam and Noel Gallagher’s relationship was a new musical venture? A new show based on their music or if they came together to create a show would be so cool.
