More information about The Wedding Singer

The Wedding Singer is set in 1985, and wannabe rock star Robbie pays his rent by performing as a wedding singer in New Jersey. When his fiancée leaves him at the altar, Robbie sours on the institution of marriage and wreaks havoc on the weddings he works. But his heart sings a new tune when he meets Julia, a waitress planning her wedding to a financier. Will Robbie win her heart before the big day?

The Wedding Singer had its pre-Broadway premiere at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle in 2006. The rom-com musical made its Broadway debut shortly after and closed after 284 performances. That production, starring Stephen Lynch and Laura Benanti, was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical but lost to Jersey Boys.

Surging Films & Theatrics was founded in 2014 by Billy Surges as an endeavor to produce stage performances as well as video projects and photography. The company chooses popular shows to pare them down to a storefront setting from their original flashy productions. Some of their previous productions include Urinetown, The Cripple of Inishmaan, Next to Normal, and American Idiot.
